Installing the Remote Media Agent

You install the Remote Media Agent on a Linux server.

To install the Remote Media Agent

  1. At a Linux server, place the installation CD in the CD-ROM drive.

  2. Log on with root privileges.

  3. Navigate to the Remote Media Agent for Linux Servers installer on the installation CD using the following path:

    <device_name>/

  4. To start the installation, type the following command:

    ./installrmal

  5. Type the name of the local Linux server on which to install the Remote Media Agent, and then press Enter.

  6. After the installer successfully checks for a valid Linux server operating system during the initial system check, press Enter.

  7. After you review the package installation summary, press Enter.

  8. To start the Remote Media Agent installation requirements precheck, press Enter.

  9. After the Remote Media Agent installer installation requirements check completes, press Enter.

  10. Type the server name or the IP address of the Backup Exec media server that you want the Remote Media Agent to publish to, and then press Enter.

  11. Verify that the IP address and hostname information is correct, and then press Enter.

  12. Read the beoper group requirement, and then press Enter.

  13. To start the NIS server scan, press Enter.

  14. Examine the results of the NIS server scan, and do one of the following. If a NIS server is detected, the Remote Media Agent installer is unable to create the beoper group and it must be done manually.

    If a NIS server is detected

    Manually create the beoper group.

    If no NIS is detected

    Press Enter to have the installer scan for the beoper group and root membership.

  15. If no beoper group is found, press Enter to have the installer create the group.

  16. Do one of the following:

    To have the installer select the next available Group ID (GID)

    Press Enter.

    To manually select the GID

    Type Y.

  17. Do one of the following:

    To have the root user added as a member to the beoper group

    Press Enter.

    To manually add the account

    Type N, and then press Enter.

  18. To begin the installation, press Enter.

    A message appears stating that the installation has completed successfully after the installation finishes.

  19. Press Enter.

    The installrmal log file is saved to the following location on the server:

    /var/tmp/vxif/installrmal<summary file number>/installrmal.log

  20. To start the BERemote services, type the following command:

    /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init start
