Can I use Windows
Media Services on a domain controller?
Windows Media Services can run on a server that is also acting
as a domain controller. If you want to make an existing Windows
Media server configuration act as a domain controller as well, keep
the following in mind:
If the domain controller is the first domain in a new forest,
Windows Media Services will migrate its accounts and settings as
If the domain controller is creating a new domain tree in an
existing forest, all local user accounts and settings are deleted.
This causes an error, and Windows Media Services will not able to
stream. To resolve this issue, do the following:
Create a new user account with guest privileges after the
server has been promoted to a domain controller.
On the Windows Media server, disable the WMS Anonymous
Configure the properties of the WMS Anonymous Authentication
plug-in to use the new user account you created in step 1.
Enable the WMS Anonymous Authentication plug-in.
Stop and then restart the Windows Media Services service.
