This message retrieves the password character displayed in an edit control when the user enters text.

Syntax

EM_GETPASSWORDCHAR

wParam = 0; 

lParam = 0;

Parameters

wParam

Not used; set to 0.

lParam

Not used; set to 0.

Return Value

The return value specifies the character to display in place of the character typed by the user. NULL indicates that no password character exists.

Remarks

If the edit control is created with the ES_PASSWORD style, the default password character is set to an asterisk (*). For more information, see Control Styles.
