Before the smart card subsystem can find a smart card, the smart card must be introduced to the system. Introduction is done typically with a smart card setup utility that is provided by the manufacturer of the smart card.
The smart card setup utility must provide the following pieces of information about the smart card:
- Its answer-to-reset (ATR) string and an optional mask to use as
an aid in identifying the card.
- A list of smart card interfaces that are supported by the smart
card.
- A friendly name for the smart card, to be used in identifying
the smart card to the user. In most cases, the user supplies this
name to the setup utility.
