Do not prompt users for settings. Service providers should have well-thought-out defaults that work for the majority of users and let them set up and synchronize with little or no need for intervention. Configuring settings in the New Partnership Wizard should be an option for knowledgeable users, not a requirement for every user.
Provide the option to change settings in the Settingsdialog box.
ActiveSync was designed to avoid interrupting the partnership initialization and synchronization processes. If your service provider cannot function without user input, then implement one of the following solutions, listed in order of preference:
- Provide a way to get user input through the
Settingsdialog box.
- Prompt the user with a dialog box when your DLL is called
during setup.
- Prompt the user with a dialog box during initialization of your
service provider.
