This message retrieves a count of the items in a header control. You can send this message explicitly or use the Header_GetItemCountmacro.

Syntax 

HDM_GETITEMCOUNT 
wParam = 0; 

lParam = 0;

Return Value

The number of items indicates success. -1 indicates failure.
