Description

Removes the Offline Files folder.

The Offline Files folder lists network files stored on the local computer for offline use. Users can use the Offline Files folder to view or open copies of network files, and view characteristics of offline files, such as their server status, type, and location.

This entry stores the setting of the Prevent use of Offline Files folder Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Prevent use of Offline Files folder policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 Displays the Offline Files folder.
1 Removes the Offline Files folder.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Prevent use of Offline Files folder policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files).

To view the Offline Files Folder without setting a policy, use Windows Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, click the Offline Files tab, and then click View Files.

Note Image Note

This entry affects the Offline Files folder only. It does not prevent users from working offline or from saving local copies of files available offline. Also, it does not prevent them from using other programs, such as Windows Explorer, to view their offline files.

This entry can appear in both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If this entry appears in both subtrees, the value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE takes precedence over the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
