InitialBalloonTimeoutSeconds

HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetCache

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 10 - 60 seconds 30

Description

Determines how long the first reminder balloon for a network status change is displayed.

This entry stores the setting of the Initial reminder balloon lifetime Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you configure the Initial reminder balloon lifetime policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system uses the default value of 30 seconds.

Reminder balloons appear when the user's connection to a network file is lost or reconnected and are updated periodically. By default, the first reminder for an event is displayed for 30 seconds. Then, updates appear every 60 minutes and are displayed for 15 seconds. You can use this entry to change the duration of the first reminder.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Initial reminder balloon lifetime policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files).

Note Image Note

This entry can appear in both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If this entry appears in both subtrees, the value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE takes precedence over the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
