HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Removes the Manage item from the Windows Explorer context menu. The context menu appears when you right-click Windows Explorer or My Computer.
This entry stores the setting of the Hides the Manage item on the Windows Explorer context menu Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 (or not in registry) | The policy is disabled or not configured. The Manage item appears in the Windows Explorer context menu. |
1 | The policy is enabled. The Manage item is removed from the Windows Explorer context menu. |
The Manage item opens Computer Management (Compmgmt.msc), a console tool which includes many of the primary Windows 2000 administrative tools, such as Event Viewer, Device Manager, and Disk Management. You must be an administrator to use many of the features of these tools.
This entry does not remove the Computer Management item from the Start menu (Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, Computer Management), nor does it prevent users from using other methods to start Computer Management.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Hides the Manage item on the Windows Explorer context menu policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer).
