Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description

Determines if the system is prevented from updating the Administrative Templates source files automatically when you open Group Policy.

Prevents the system from updating the Administrative Templates source files automatically when you open Group Policy.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable automatic update of ADM files Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

By default, when you start Group Policy, the system loads the most recently revised copies of each Administrative Templates source file (.adm) that it finds in the %Systemroot%\inf directory. The .adm files create the list of policies that appear in the Administrative Templates folder in Group Policy.

When the value of this entry is 1, the system loads the .adm files you used the last time you ran Group Policy. Thereafter, you must update the .adm files manually.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. The system loads the most current version of each .adm file.
1 The policy is enabled. The system loads the .adm files you used the last time you ran Group Policy.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable automatic update of ADM files policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy).

Note Image Note

Upgrading your .adm files does not overwrite your policy configuration settings. The settings are stored in Active Directory, not in the .adm files.

Tip Image Tip

To upgrade your .adm files manually, in Group Policy, right-click the Administrative Templates folder (either instance), and then click Add/Remove Templates.
