HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Network Connections
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Determines whether users can rename dial-up and local area connections.
This entry stores the setting of the Enable renaming of connections, if supported Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy, Group Policy sets the value to 0. If you set the policy to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 1.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 | The policy is disabled. Users cannot rename connections. |
1 (or not in registry) | The policy is enabled or not configured. Users can rename connections. |
By default, users can rename connections by clicking the icon representing a connection or by using the File menu. When the value of this entry is 0, the Rename options are disabled.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Enable renaming of connections, if supported policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Network and Dial-up Connections).
Note
When the value of this entry is 0 and the value of NC_RenameMyRasConnection is 1, then users can rename only their private connections. However, when the value of this entry is 1, users can rename all connections, regarless of the value of NC_RenameMyRasConnection.
