Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Enables and disables the browse feature of the Add Printer wizard. The browse feature lets users search the network for shared printers.
This entry stores the setting of the Browse the network to find printers Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy, Group Policy sets the value to 0. If you set the policy to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 1.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 | The policy is disabled. The browse feature is disabled. Users cannot browse the network to find a shared printer; they must type a printer name. |
1 (or not in registry) | The policy is enabled or not configured. The browse feature is enabled. When users click Add a network printer, but do not type the name of a particular printer, the Add Printer wizard displays a list of all shared printers on the network and invites users to choose a printer from among them. |
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Browse the network to find printers policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Printers).
Note
This entry affects the Add Printer wizard only. It does not prevent users from using other programs to browse for shared printers or to connect to network printers.
