Description

Determines if users are prevented from using Add/Remove Programs.

Removes Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel and removes the Add/Remove Programs item from menus. As a result, users cannot run Add/Remove Programs.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable Add/Remove Programs Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. Add/Remove Programs is hidden.
1 The policy is enabled. Add/Remove Programs is visible and available to users.

Add/Remove Programs lets users install, uninstall, repair, add, and remove features and components of Windows 2000 and a wide variety of Windows programs. Programs published or assigned to the user appear in Add/Remove Programs.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable Add/Remove Programs policy (User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Add/Remove Programs).

When the value of this entry is set to 1, it takes precedence over the other entries in this subkey.

This entry does not prevent users from using other tools and methods to install or uninstall programs.
