Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description

Removes Active Desktop content and prevents users from adding Active Desktop content.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable all items Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. Users can add and remove Active Desktop content.
1 The policy is enabled. Active Desktop is removed and users cannot restore it.

Setting the value of this entry to 1 removes all Active Desktop items from the desktop. It also removes the Web tab from Display in Control Panel and removes the New Desktop Item command from the Active Desktop menu. As a result, users cannot add Web pages or pictures from the Internet or an intranet to the desktop.

This entry does not disable Active Desktop. Users can still use image formats, such as JPEG and GIF, for their desktop wallpaper.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable all items policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop\Active Desktop).
