HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Determines if users are prevented from removing Web content from their Active Desktop.
Prevents users from closing Web content from their Active Desktop.
A value of 1 removes the list of the Active Desktop items from the Active Desktop menu. (To see this list, right-click the desktop and point to Active Desktop. The list appears at the bottom of the menu.) Also, it removes the check boxes from items on the Web tab in Display in Control Panel.
This entry stores the setting of the Prohibit closing items Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 (or not in registry) | The policy is disabled or not configured. Users can close Web content from their Active Desktop. |
1 | The policy is enabled. Users cannot close Web content from their Active Desktop. |
In Active Desktop, you can add items to the desktop, but close them so they are not displayed. If you set the value of this entry to 1, items added to the desktop cannot be closed; they always appear on the desktop.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Prohibit closing items policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop\Active Desktop).
Note
This entry does not prevent users from deleting items from their Active Desktop.
