Determines if Start menu shortcuts to partially installed programs are displayed in gray text.
Displays Start menu shortcuts to partially installed programs in gray text.
This entry stores the setting of the Gray unavailable Windows Installer programs Start Menu shortcuts Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 (or not in registry) | The policy is disabled or not configured. All Start menu shortcuts appear in black text. |
1 | The policy is enabled. Shortcuts to partially-installed programs appear in gray text. |
This entry makes it easier for users to distinguish between programs that are fully installed and those that are only partially installed.
Partially installed programs include those that a system administrator assigns using Windows Installer and those that users have configured for full installation upon first use.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Gray unavailable Windows Installer programs Start Menu shortcuts policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).
Note
Setting the value of this entry to 1 can make the Start menu slow to open.
