Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 - 1440 minutes | 60 |
Determines how often reminder balloon updates appear, and prevents users from changing the setting.
This entry stores the setting of the Minutes box in the Reminder balloon frequency Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you configure the Reminder balloon frequency policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system uses the default value of 60 minutes.
When this entry appears in the registry, the system removes the Display reminder balloon every … minutes option on the Offline Files tab. This prevents users from changing the setting while a policy is in effect.
Reminder balloons appear when the user's connection to a network file is lost or reconnected and are updated periodically. By default, the first reminder for an event is displayed for 30 seconds. Then, updates appear every 60 minutes and are displayed for 15 seconds. You can use this entry to change the update interval.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Reminder balloon frequency policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files).
Note
This entry takes precedence over a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, the system disables the Display reminder balloon every … minutes option on the Offline Files tab and ignores the value of ReminderFreqMinutes in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache, which stores the option setting. If the Offline Files tab does not operate as expected, check to see if this entry is in the registry.
This entry can appear in both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If this entry appears in both subtrees, the value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE takes precedence over the value in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Tip
To set reminder balloon frequency without setting a policy, use Windows Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the Offline Files tab. This entry corresponds to the Display reminder balloon every … minutes option.
