Description

Announces the presence of shared printers to print browse master servers for the domain.

On Windows 2000 domains with Active Directory, shared printer resources are available in Active Directory and are not announced by default.

This entry stores the setting of the Printer browsing Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you configure the Printer browsing policy.

This entry stores the setting of the Printer browsing Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable thePrinter browsing policy. If you disable the policy, Group Policy sets the value to 0. If you set the policy to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry.

Value Meaning
(Not in registry) Shared printers are announced to browse master servers only when Active Directory is not available.
0 Shared printers are not announced to print browse master servers, even when Active Directory is not available.
1 The print spooler announces shared printers to the print browse master servers. As a result, shared printers appear in the domain list in the Browse for Printer dialog box of the Add Printer wizard.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Printer browsing policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Printers).

A client license is used each time a client computer announces a printer to a print browse master on the domain.

Changes to this policy are not evident until the system receives an updated printer list from the browse master server. Extended delays are common. (The Explain tab in Group Policy fails to mention this delay.)
