HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\NetCache
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | (Not in registry) | 0 - 10000 percentage of disk space (* 100) | 1000 (10.00 percent) |
Limits the percentage of the computer's disk space that can be used to store automatically-cached offline files, and prevents users, including administrators, from changing it.
This entry stores the setting of the Default cache size Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry when you enable theDefault cache size policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry.
The value of this entry is a percentage of disk space, specified to the hundredth of a percent (a ten-thousandth), but without a decimal point. To enter a value, multiply the decimal value of the percentage by 10000, or multiply the percent value by 100.
For example, to specify 76.25%, multiply .7625 by 10,000 or multiply 76.25 by 100. Group Policy enters the resulting value, 7625, in the value of this entry.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
(Not in registry) | The policy is disabled or not configured. The system limits disk space for automatically-cached files to 10 percent of the system drive by default, but users can change it. |
0 - 10000 | Specifies the automatic-cache disk space limit, and prevents users from changing it. |
When this entry appears in the registry, the system disables the Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files option on the Offline Files tab in Folder Options of Windows Explorer. This prevents users from changing the option while a policy is in effect.
Automatic caching can be set on any network share. When a user opens a file on the share, the system automatically stores a copy of the file on the user's computer.
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Default cache size policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files).
To change the amount of disk space used for automatic caching without setting a policy, use Windows Explorer. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, click the Offline Files tab, and then use the slider bar associated with the Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files option.
Note
This entry takes precedence over a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, a policy is in effect and the system disables the Amount of disk space to use for temporary offline files option on the Offline Files tab and ignores the value of DefCacheSize in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache which stores the option setting. If the Offline Files tab does not operate as expected, check to see if this entry is in the registry.
This entry does not limit the disk space available for files that user's make available offline manually.
