The WINS ConsistencyCheck subkey is an optional subkey that you can add to the registry to direct WINS to perform periodic database consistency checks. Typically, consistency checks are not performed because they consume a substantial amount of resources on both the WINS server and the network.
If you add this subkey, set the values to minimize the load on the network due to consistency checking. Consider the network topology and the number of WINS servers, WINS clients, and WAN/LAN links between WINS servers to determine acceptable values for these entries.
To enable periodic automated consistency checking, use the WINS console. In WINS server properties, click the Database Verification tab, click the Verify database consistency check box, and use the options to configure consistency checking.
Caution
Consistency checking uses a significant amount of network resources and can consume substantial processor time on WINS servers.
