HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_DWORD | 0 | 1 | 0 |
Suppresses system status messages. These messages remind users to wait while their system starts or shuts down, or while users log on or off.
This entry stores the setting of the Disable Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Disable Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
Value | Meaning |
---|---|
0 (or not in registry) | The policy is disabled or not configured. The system displays status messages. |
1 | The policy is enabled. The system does not display a message reminding users to wait while their system starts or shuts down, or while users log on or off. |
To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages policy (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System).
Note
The Disable Boot / Shutdown / Logon / Logoff status messages policy takes precedence over the Verbose vs normal status messages policy. When the value of DisableStatusMessages is 1, the system does not display status messages and the VerboseStatus entry is ignored.
This entry takes precedence over a user setting. When this entry appears in the registry, the system ignores the value of DisableStatusMessages in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.
