NoSetTaskbar

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description

Prevents the user from opening the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.

A value of 1 removes the Taskbar & Start Menu item from the Settings menu on the Start menu. Also, if a user right-clicks the taskbar and then clicks Properties, a message appears explaining that a policy prevents the action.

This entry stores the setting of the Disable changes to Taskbar and Start Menu Settings Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the Disable changes to Taskbar and Start Menu Settings policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. Users can use the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.
1 The policy is enabled. Users cannot open or use the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Disable changes to Taskbar and Start Menu Settings policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).
