HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\<{Class-GUID}>\<Device-number (000n)>\Linkage
Data type | Range | Default value |
---|---|---|
REG_MULTI_SZ | ServiceName ServiceName ... | There is no default value for this entry. |
Specifies services required by the network component in addition to those specified in the binding. This entry and its value are retained when bindings are reconfigured, even when the other entries in the Linkage subkey are deleted and recreated.
For example, in the NetBT\Linkage subkey, the value of OtherDependencies is Tcpip. This value indicates that NetBT requires TCP/IP, regardless of its current binding configuration.
Note
A valid binding requires a value for three entries: Bind, Export, and Route.
Services upon which the network component depends due to its current binding are stored in its DependOnService entry.
Windows 2000 adds this entry to the subkey only when it is required by the network component. It does not appear in all Linkage subkeys.
Tip
To determine the hardware device represented by a <Device-number> subkey, use a registry editor. Click the <Device-number> subkey (it appears as a four-digit number, such as 0000). The value of DriverDesc, which describes the driver, typically identifies the device.
Many digits in the GUID are unique to your system. However, the three digits preceding the first hyphen are specific to the device class and are the same on all systems. For example, the three digits preceding the first hyphen in the DVD/CD-ROM drives class are always 965.
Caution
Do not change any entries in the Class subkey or any subkey within it. These subkeys are configured by the system to be compliant with Plug and Play standards. Changing any data can prevent your computer devices from starting or operating properly.
