AllowUnqualifiedQuery

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description

Determines whether the Domain Name Server (DNS) service permits unqualified queries.

Unqualified queries do not include the domain name. They have the form <hostname>. (host name followed by a dot) and are satisfied by any matching host name.

If unqualified queries are not permitted, and a query is submitted that does not include a domain name, then the Domain Name Server (DNS) service automatically appends the name of the local domain.

The following table shows the meaning of each value and the result of submitting the unqualified query: host1. from the reskit.com domain:

Value Meaning Sample query result
0 Do not permit unqualified queries. host1.reskit.com
1 Permit unqualified queries. host1.
