HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
The entries in the SafeBoot subkey contain information about the safe mode settings of the computer. In safe mode, Windows 2000 uses default settings (VGA monitor, no network, Microsoft mouse driver, and the minimum device drivers required to start Windows).
For example, if your computer does not start after you install new software, you might be able to start it in safe mode with minimal services and then change your computer settings or remove the newly installed software that is causing the problem.
To start Windows 2000 in safe mode, restart the computer and press F8 when you see the message Please select the operating system to start.
Caution
Changing the values of these entries can prevent Windows 2000 from starting.
