HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\IDConfigDB\
The Hardware Profiles subkey of IDConfigDB stores information about the hardware profiles configured on the system.
A hardware profile consists of specified changes to the original hardware profile configured in the SOFTWARE and SYSTEM keys of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. These changes are stored in the Hardware Profiles subkey in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
The Hardware Profiles subkey in the IDConfigDB subkey stores information about the profile, but not the profile itself.
You can use System in Control Panel to create a hardware profile. Also, the system creates new hardware profiles automatically when it encounters configurations that require new profiles, such as when a portable computer is undocked or moved from one docking station to another.
Tip
To create a hardware profile, double-click System in Control Panel, click the Hardware tab, and then click the Hardware Profiles button.
