Installing the Console and Controller

If this is the initial installation of Ultrasound and you plan to install the controller and console on the same server, choose a complete installation. Otherwise, choose a custom installation to install the console on a separate computer or to install the controller on a server where the database is already installed.

Performing a Complete Installation

A complete installation installs the console and controller on the same server. MSDE or SQL Server 2000 SP3a must already be installed on a server before you begin installation.

To perform a complete installation

  1. Run Setup_Ultrasound.exe to begin installation.
  2. Follow the directions in the installation wizard and choose Complete for the setup type.
  3. When prompted to enter a database server, type server\DBInstance that corresponds to the server name where you installed the database and the instance name of the database. If you did not specify a database instance when you installed MSDE or SQL Server 2000, just type the server name.

Do not type "localhost" to specify the database server name; use the actual name of the server instead.  For example, if you are installing Ultrasound on a server called MyServer and this server has an MSDE database instance called "frsmon" already installed, specify "MyServer\frsmon" for the database server.

  4. For the database name, type a name to use as the database name or use the default database name "Ultrasound."
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.

Performing a Custom Installation

A custom installation allows you to install the controller and console separately and is typically used to install the console on administrators’ client computers. You can also perform a custom installation to install the controller on a server that has access to a database on another server or the same server.

To perform a custom installation

  1. Run Setup_Ultrasound.exe to begin installation.
  2. Follow the directions in the installation wizard and choose Custom for the setup type.
  3. For the component that you do not want to install, click the drop-down arrow next to the component name and click This feature will not be available.
  4. Do one of the following:
