To use Windows 2000 or Windows XP without Active Directory to create a home directory

1. Open Computer Management.
2. Open Local Users and Groups.
3. Open the Users folder.
4. Double-click a user.
5. Click the Profile tab.
6. In the Local path text box, type the user's home directory, and then click OK.

Notes

• To open Computer Management, click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Computer Management.
• The HOME and HOMEPATH environment variables derive their values from the value that you set as the Windows home directory. The home directory that you set in Windows becomes the Interix shell default home directory. You can quickly move to your home directory by typing cd or cd $HOME.
