The following conditions apply when you use Interix utilities and Win32 applications on the same files:
In Windows, you use a back slash (\) to represent the root directory and as a delimiter between directory and file names. In the Interix subsystem, you use a forward slash (/) to represent the root directory (the directory in which you installed Windows Services for UNIX). You also use / as a delimiter between directory and file names.
You can access the same file from within Windows or the Interix subsystem, but you must use the right delimiters. For example, assume that you are on the drive in which you installed Windows Services for UNIX. From a Windows command prompt, you can view the motd file in the etc directory by using type \sfu\etc\profile. From within the Interix subsystem, you would type cat /etc/profile.
