Troubleshooting

Contents of a terminal window display incorrectly.

Cause:  The terminal window properties were changed through Windows, or the TERM environment variable is set incorrectly.

Solution:  If you used Windows to change the properties of the terminal window (by using Console Window Properties to resize it, for example), close the terminal window and reopen it. Also, ensure that the TERM environment variable is set to interix. Interix sets the TERM variable to interix by default to ensure that all Interix utilities work correctly, and it should not be changed.

You receive the error message: "A user or group id with a value that requires careful Posix Offset management has been encountered."

Cause:  A user identifier (UID) or group identifier (GID) value is nearly an illegal value.

Solution:  This message is usually a warning of a potential error condition. It is not an actual error unless it is accompanied by the error message: "A user or group id with a value too large to make into a uid_t has been encountered, and converted into a reserved UID value." This error message is discussed in the next troubleshooting topic.

You receive the error message: "A user or group id with a value too large to make into a uid_t has been encountered, and converted into a reserved UID value."

Cause:  Interix cannot construct a user identifier (UID) or group identifier (GID) because the network has a very large number of domains and a domain has a very large number of users and groups.

Solution:  You might have to adjust the POSIX offset values for your domain. For more information, see Understanding and controlling the POSIX offset.
