.Some tape devices, most notably those made by Hewlett-Packard, use specialized hardware for data compression. Since this specialized hardware might not exist for the Interix platform, you probably will not be able to read data compressed with this hardware. If you are unsure of the hardware that you are using, ask your system administrator.
