You can use shortcuts from the desktop or the Start menu to start three types of Interix programs: a command-line program, an X client program, or a shell script. A different .exe file is used to start each of these. An Interix command-line program uses posix.exe, an X client program uses psxrun.exe, and a shell script uses sh.exe.
You can start a shortcut by double-clicking it or pressing a preassigned keyboard combination. For example, if you assign the keys CTRL+ALT+K to a shortcut, pressing CTRL+ALT+K will open that shortcut. The shortcut will start its assigned program even if you are already working in another program, such as Microsoft Word or Excel.
