Understanding the directory cache

To improve performance when resolving path names, Server for NFS maintains a cache of directory information that it can search instead of directories on the physical disk. By default, this cache is configured to use 128 KB of memory. You can reduce the amount of memory the directory cache uses, however. For more information, see To set the directory cache size.
