A Windows 2000–based master Network Information Service
(NIS) server can propagate changes in maps to subordinate (slave)
NIS servers in the same domain. These changes are propagated to
subordinate NIS servers using the features of the NIS protocol.
The master NIS server supports the following transfer modes:
Periodic transfer of NIS maps.
On-demand transfer of NIS maps to subordinate servers.
Typically, NIS maps get transferred to subordinate servers upon
change through make. The Windows 2000–based NIS server
does not use make; instead, you push immediately.
Subordinate NIS servers can request transfer of maps at any
time.
