Question: How can I use the client?
Answer: The client may run in two modes: as a windows service or standalone (as a normal application). The advantage of running as a service is elevated rights, the client has access to the entire machine (except user's registry) and the client is started up when Windows is booted.
Question: Can the client send inventory result file to a remote file server when running as a service?
Answer: No, this is not possible. The client service must run as local system account in order to access the user's desktop, and this account does not have any access rights outside the local machine. You must use HTTP (or e-mail) when the client is running as a service.
Question: How do I specify an update server?
Answer: Enter the IP Address or DNS name of the server running the Snow Inventory repository if the client is running as a windows service. If running in standalone mode, enter either an IP Address (or DNS name) or the UNC path to the update folder on the repository server.
