Summary

In this chapter we explored how to configure site server properties such as the site boundaries, roaming boundaries, and site accounts. We explored the site configuration process flow and identified three main SMS components involved in most site property changes—SMS Hierarchy Manager, SMS Site Component Manager, and SMS Site Control Manager.

We also discussed how to identify and configure site systems for our SMS site. The site server could, of course, be assigned all site system roles, and in many environments this might be appropriate. However, other concerns might lead us to assign one or more site system roles to other servers in our site. These concerns, as we have seen, include performance limitations of the site server, the number and location of our clients and users, network infrastructure, and network traffic patterns. Now that we understand how to manage systems within our site, we can explore the process of joining different SMS sites into an enterprise-wide site hierarchy—the topic of Chapter 4.
