Enabling SNMP on Windows Devices
Before you can collect performance data on a
Windows PC, you must first install and enable the Microsoft SNMP
Agent on the device itself.
To install SNMP Monitoring:
- From the Windows Control Panel, click
.
- Click .
- From the Components list, select
.
- Click to view the list of
Subcomponents.
- Make sure Simple Network Management Protocol
is selected.
- Click .
- Click to install the components.
- After the install wizard is complete, click
to close the
window.
To enable SNMP Monitoring:
- In the Control Panel, click .
- Double-click . the Services console opens.
- In the Services (Local) list, double-click
to view the
Properties.
- On the tab, enter the name for the person responsible for
the upkeep and administration of the computer, then enter the
of the computer.
These items are returned during some SNMP queries.
- On the tab, click to add a community string for the
device. Community strings are pass codes that allow
applications like WhatsUp to read information about the computer.
This community string will be later used to create
credentials for connecting to this device.
- On the tab, click to start the service (if
necessary).
- Click to close the dialog.
You can test the device by connecting to it
through SNMP
