Advanced IP Settings

Example

If your network has 5 Subnets and you ONLY want to discover and map devices residing between the ranges of .20 and .30 (on each subnet), then selecting advanced IP settings saves the time of unnecessarily discovering all IP addresses from .1 to .254 on each of the subnets.

If you select Limit scan to class C sub range and provide a start and end address of x.x.1.20 - x.x.5.30, then WhatsUp Gold will discover and map the devices residing in the ranges, which are displayed in bold.

Subnet 1      .1   .2   .3  19   .20  .21  .22  ..through .30   .31 up to .254

(x.x.1.0)

Subnet 2      .1   .2   .3  19   .20  .21  .22  ..through .30   .31 up to .254

(x.x.2.0)

Subnet 3      .1   .2   .3  19   .20  .21  .22  ..through .30   .31 up to .254

(x.x.3.0)

Subnet 4      .1   .2   .3  19   .20  .21  .22  ..through .30   .31 up to .254

(x.x.4.0)

Subnet 5      .1   .2   .3  19   .20  .21  .22  ..through .30   .31 up to .254

(x.x.5.0)

If you clear the Limit scan to class C sub range option and provide a start and end address of x.x.1.20 - x.x.5.30 then WhatsUp Gold will discover and map the devices residing in the ranges, which are displayed in bold.

Subnet 1      .1   .2   .3  19  .20  .21  .22  ..through  .30  .31 up to .254

(x.x.1.0)

Subnet 2      .1   .2   .3 19 .20  .21  .22  ..through  .30  .31 up to .254

(x.x.2.0)

Resolve host names. Select this option to have WhatsUp Gold attempt to populate the list of discovered devices with host names, instead of IP addresses. Clear this option to have the list show only IP addresses of discovered devices.
