If the upgrade conversion fails, nbvault does not start in service or daemon mode, and the existing Vault configuration file remains unchanged. Because the NetBackup Vault Manager must be running, Vault does not work.
If the conversion fails, do the following:
Read the upgrade log file to determine the details of the failure.
If the upgrade log file does not exist, nbvault failed even before it attempted to upgrade the vault configuration file. In that case, read the event log (on Windows) or system log (on UNIX or Linux) for more details.
Based on the information in the log file, take corrective action.
Start the nbvault service or daemon manually.
nbvault attempts to upgrade the Vault configuration file. For every upgrade attempt, nbvault creates a new upgrade log file.
If the upgrade fails again, nbvault does not start in service or daemon mode. Repeat the preceding steps to resolve the reason for failure.
Upgrade information also is written to the nbvault log but it depends on the existence of the log directory and the log level settings of Vault.
