Marking and unmarking files and directories (folders)

You must mark the items you want to back up or restore. Before you start a backup or a restore, you can unmark any marked files if needed.

Unless otherwise noted, you can mark items in the All Folders panes or the Contents panes of the Backup and the Restore windows.

You can mark and unmark files as follows:

To display the contents of a directory (folder):

  • In the All Folders pane, click the folder icon.

To mark files and directories (folders):

  • To mark a file, click the check box to the left of the file. A check mark appears in the box.

A diagonal line appears in the check box for the associated directory (folder), to indicate that only some of the items within it are marked. You can mark more than one file.

  • To mark a directory (folder), click the check box to its left. A check mark appears in the box and all files and subdirectories (subfolders) are marked.

If you mark a folder in the All Folders pane and multiple file revisions appear in the Contents pane, NetBackup only marks the latest revision.

Multiple revisions of a file can appear when all of the following occur:

    • A revision of the same file exists in multiple backup images.

    • Multiple backup images are selected and the file exists in more than one of those images.

    • The view is set to show all backups (View > Show All Backups).

  • To mark multiple contiguous items, in the Contents pane, select the name (not the check box) of the first file you want to mark. Hold down the Shift key and click the name of the last file you want to mark. Release the Shift key and click in the check box of any of the selected files.

  • To mark all the files and folders in the Contents pane, click Edit > Mark Displayed Files.

To unmark files and directories (folders):

  • To unmark a file, clear the check box to the left of the file.

  • To unmark a folder and all the files and subfolders that are marked within that folder, clear the check box to the left of the folder.

  • To unmark all files and folders in the Contents pane, click Edit > Unmark Displayed Files.

  • To unmark all previously marked files and folders, click Edit > Unmark All. You can also click the Unmark All Previously Marked Files icon on the Backup or the Restore window toolbar.
