Restoring a partition from a FlashBackup backup

Use the following procedure to restore a partition from a FlashBackup backup.

To restore a partition from a FlashBackup backup

  1. On the destination drive, exit from all applications that are running.

  2. Stop or close any databases that use the destination drive for storage.

  3. Click File > Select Files and Folders to Restore > from Raw Partition Backup.

  4. If necessary, specify the master server that has the backups that you want to restore.

  5. Specify the source and the destination clients for the restore.

  6. Specify the policy type:

    • Click File > Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Types.

    • In the Policy type for restore field, select either FlashBackup (for UNIX clients) or FlashBackup-Windows (for Windows clients).

    • Click OK.

  7. If necessary, in the All Folders pane, expand the Directory Structure as follows to select the backup:

    • For a UNIX client, expand the path to the device file directory (such as /dev/rdsk/) so that the device file appears in the Contents pane.

    • For a Windows client, expand the Directory Structure view so that the volume letter appears in the Contents pane. The volume appears as a logical drive with the name that was specified in the Backup Selection list of the backup policy (such as \\.\D:).

  8. In the Contents pane, select the backup image to restore:

    • For a UNIX client, select the device file.

    • For a Windows client, select the volume letter.

      The volume appears as a logical drive with the name that was specified in the Backup Selection list of the backup policy (such as \\.\D:)

  9. Preview a list of the required media to restore:

    • Click Actions > Preview Media.

    If the backup images required to restore the data are on disk storage units rather than removable media such as tape, no media is listed.

    Click OK to close the dialog box.

  10. Click Actions > Start Restore of Marked Files.

  11. In the Restore Marked Files dialog box, select from the following options to meet the requirements for the restore:

    Select from the following restore options:

    • See Overwrite existing files.

      When you restore from a raw partition backup, the partition on the destination disk is always overwritten. Selecting or not selecting the Overwrite existing files option has no effect on the restore result.

    • See Do not restore the file.

    Job Priority

    You can change the priority of this restore by clicking Override default priority, and then set a priority number.

    The default is 90000. The available range is 0 to 99999.

  12. Click Start Restore.

  13. In the dialog box that appears, click Yes to view the restore status.

    The restore may take a few minutes to complete. After you start a restore operation, you can close Backup, Archive, and Restore and perform other tasks on your computer. NetBackup continues the restore operation in the background.
