Guidelines for restoring from a Windows disk image backup

The following describes the guidelines for restoring from a Windows disk image backup:

Policy configuration

The policy that performs the backup must be configured to perform a disk image backup. The configuration requires that the Backup Selections list in the policy include the logical name for the drive.

For more information, see the NetBackup Administrator's Guide, Volume I.

Destination disk

  • Ensure that the disk drive is mounted (designated as a drive letter) but is not in use. You cannot restore a disk image backup to the system boot disk or to the disk where NetBackup is installed.

  • Ensure that the destination disk is the same size as the source disk when it was backed up. Otherwise, the restore results are unpredictable.

  • Shut down any database that uses the disk for storage.

  • Exit from all applications that are running.

  • Exit from any applications that use a handle to the disk, such as Windows Explorer or Norton AntiVirus. Otherwise, the operation fails.

  • Ensure that there are no active copy-on-write (COW) snapshots in progress.

Restore option

On the Restore Marked Files dialog box, you must select the Overwrite existing files option.
