NetBackup provides the following methods for performing backups and archives.
User-directed backups and archives let you back up or archive on demand or manually by using Backup, Archive, and Restore.

Server-directed backups and archives are performed through a policy created by a NetBackup Administrator. The policy includes a schedule that initiates the backup or archive automatically.
