The deduplication storage server deduplicates backups and manages the storage. You can configure other media servers for two purposes:
To help deduplicate backups. Doing so removes deduplication load from the deduplication storage server host.
Selecting a media server enables it to become a load balancing server. It becomes a load balancing server when you select it in the storage unit for the deduplication pool. You can select so all of the media server you select here are used for deduplication. Alternatively, you can select and then select the one or ones you want to use.
To manage optimized duplication.
At least one media server must have credentials for both the source and the destination storage. If you do not select that media server in the storage unit for the primary storage, it functions for optimized duplication only.
The wizard installs the PureDisk plug-in on the media servers you select. The wizard also populates the media servers with the NetBackup Deduplication Engine credentials you entered on a previous screen.
