Select alternate client or data mover, as follows:
Enter the name of the alternate client. The alternate client
handles the backup processing, which saves resources on the primary
client. The snapshot is captured on the alternate client, not on
the primary client. Compared to the other off-host methods,
alternate client reduces the backup I/O burden on the primary
client to the greatest extent.
Note:
|
On the alternate client, the following must
be the same as on the primary client: the operating system and
version, the NetBackup client version, and the VxVM version (if
installed).
|
The data mover handles the backup processing, which saves
resources on the primary client:
NetBackup Media Server
A NetBackup media server reads the backup data from the primary
client snapshot. It then writes the data to a storage device, using
the mapping information that the client provides.
Third-Party Copy Device
(UNIX clients only): By using the Extended Copy command and by
mapping information from the client, a third-party copy device
reads backup data from the primary client snapshot. It then writes
the data to a storage device. Many kinds of devices, such as
routers and disk arrays, are designed as third-party copy
devices.
Note:
|
If you chose the on
the Asset Type screen, the Network Attached Storage data mover is
automatically chosen. An NDMP (NAS) host performs the backup.
|
When you use a data mover, select the type of storage unit to
use for the backup.
