Filter by example

Use the Filter dialog box to display only those rows that match the specified criteria.

Define the filter criteria as follows:

Filter criteria

The rows and columns in the table reflect the current list you want to filter. Type the value you want to filter for in the column where you expect to find it.

Filter columns (OR): Any items that are typed in multiple columns that find a match in the queried table are included in the filtered selection.

Filter rows (AND): All the items that are typed in a single row must find a match in the queried table to be included in the filtered selection.

Compare method when not specified by 1st character

  • Starts with

    Show rows containing columns where the characters that start with the specified characters are found.

  • Contains

    Show rows containing columns where the characters that are composed of the specified characters are found.

  • Is exactly

    Show rows containing columns where the characters that match the specified characters exactly are found.

Match case

Check to perform a case-sensitive comparison.

Show no matches

Check to display only those items that do not match the filtering criteria. (Filter out the specified data.)

Filter Previous Results

Check to filter the table again with additional criteria. If this option is not checked, the filter acts on the unfiltered table.

1st character compare method

To enhance filtering capabilities, enter a 1st character compare symbol and a value for which to filter. Note that no space exists between the symbol and the value.

Use one of the following symbols to override the compare chosen method:

  • +n

    Includes the rows that start with the specified value.

  • *n

    Includes the rows that contain the values that match the specified value.

  • =n

    Includes the rows that contain values equal to the specified value.

  • >n

    Includes the rows that contain values greater than the specified value. (Alpha characters may be entered.)

  • <n

    Includes the rows that contain values less than the specified value. (Alpha characters may be entered.)

  • !n

    Includes the rows that do not contain the specified value. This symbol can be used with other symbols for further filtering.

  • @

    Includes the rows that are blank in the column where this symbol appears.

Click to remove all filtering criteria from the Filter dialog box.

Filter button

Apply the filtering criteria.

Cancel button

Click to close the dialog box without filtering the data.
