Type column

The Type column lists the job type. The following table lists the types of jobs:

Alternate backup

A backup job that a NetBackup client performs on behalf of another client.

Archive

An archive job that the user initiates through the client interface. Files are backed up, then deleted from the local disk.

Backup

A backup job.

Catalog backup

An online, hot catalog backup. Is is a composite job that consists of a parent job and two or more child jobs.

Cleaning

A job that tpclean initiates to clean tape drives.

DQTS

A job that is initiated as part of the Enhanced Device Qualification Tool Suite. DQTS commands verify the proper functioning of tape drives and robotic tape libraries.

Duplicate

A job that copies an existing backup image. Use the Catalog utility to initiate a duplicate job.

Erase

A job that bplabel -L initiates. Or, select Media in the Administration Console, and then select the Actions menu to write a NetBackup label on unassigned media.

Import

A job that the Catalog utility initiates to retrieve expired backup images.

Inventory

A job that vmphyinv initiates to physically inventory the media contents of a robotic library or stand-alone drive. Then vmphyinv updates the volume database.

Label

A job that bplabel initiates to write a NetBackup label on specified media.

LiveUpdate

A job that a LiveUpdate session initiates. A LiveUpdate job cannot be stopped in an Active state. A detailed status of a LiveUpdate job is available after the LiveUpdate session is complete.

Restore

A job that restores data to a client.

Synthetic backup

Job that constructs a full or cumulative backup image by processing component images (previous backups).

A synthetic full backup is a backup assembled from a previous, traditional (non-synthesized) full backup, and subsequent differential backups or a cumulative incremental backup.

Tape Request

A job that tpreq initiates to request a tape volume for mounting and to associate a file name with the assigned drive.

Vault

A composite job that consists of a parent job and multiple child jobs.

Verify

A job that verifies the contents of one or more backups as it reads the backup volume and compares its contents to the NetBackup catalog. Use the Catalog utility or bpverify to initiate the job. A Verify job is a composite job that consists of a parent job and multiple child jobs.

tpreq, tpclean, DQTS, vmphyinv, and bpmedialist do not initiate a job when run on a back-level media server.
