Changing the database password

You can change the DBA and application password at any time. The password is encrypted using AES-128-CFB and stored in the vxdbms.conf file. The permissions for the vxdbms.conf file allow only a Windows administrator to read or write to it.

Symantec recommends changing the password after installation.

The default password that is set during installation is nbusql. This password is used for NBDB and BMRDB and for all DBA and application accounts. (For example, EMM_MAIN.)

To change the database password

Log on to the server as a Windows Administrator.
Use one of the following methods to change the database password:
- Use the NetBackup Database Administration utility.
  
  See Using the NetBackup Database Administration utility.
- Run the following command to update the vxdbms.conf file with the new, encrypted string:
  
  Install_path\NetBackup\bin\nbdb_admin -dba new_password
