Devices Actions menu

The following table lists the actions available on the Device Actions menu:

New

Displays the choices to add the following:

  • Robot

  • Tape drive

  • Optical drive

  • Server group

Depending on the NetBackup options that are currently licensed, you may also be able to:

  • Add a shared drive. Requires a NetBackup Shared Storage Option license.

  • Add a NetBackup SAN client. Requires a SAN Client license.

  • Add a SAN disk pool. This option starts the Disk Pool Configuration Wizard. Requires a Flexible Disk Option license.

Enterprise Media Manager Database

Displays a submenu to synchronize the device databases of NetBackup 5.x media servers with the Enterprise Media Manager (EMM) database. It is normally unnecessary to synchronize databases. Synchronize the databases if you've experienced problems or have recently made any configuration changes that may not have been recognized.

Also displays a menu item for removing NetBackup device hosts from the EMM database. Applies only to NetBackup Enterprise Server.

Inventory robot

Flexible Disk Option license only.

Displays a dialog box with choices for performing an inventory of the selected disk pool. An inventory updates the EMM database to match the storage available in the disk pool.

Inventory Disk Pool

Flexible Disk Option license only.

Displays a dialog box with choices for performing an inventory of the selected disk pool. An inventory updates the EMM database to match the storage available in the disk pool.

Stop/restart NetBackup Device Manager Service

Controls the NetBackup Device Manager Service.

Activate

Activates a host to become available for NetBackup jobs.

Deactivate

Deactivate a host (take it offline) so backup jobs cannot send data to the host.

Enable FT Services

SAN Client license only.

Enables the Fibre Transport (FT) service on the selected media server.

Disable FT Services

SAN Client license only.Disables the Fibre Transport (FT) service on the selected media server.

SAN Client Usage Preferences

SAN Client license only.

Displays a dialog box with choices for configuring the FT usage preferences for the selected SAN client.

Rescan SAN Client FT Devices

SAN Client license only.

Initiates an operating system level scan of the selected SAN client and updates the EMM database. The scan is a time- and compute-intensive operation that may not discover new devices (especially if the client system requires a reboot).

Depending on the operating system capabilities, the scan may search for new Fibre Channel devices.

Active only if the selected client is licensed for the Shared Storage Option for Disk.

View FT Connections

SAN Client license only.

Opens a dialog box to view Fibre Transport connections:

  • If a SAN Client is selected, opens the SAN Client Transport View dialog box. The dialog box shows all of the outbound backup (and inbound restore) traffic for the selected SAN client.

  • If an FT media server is selected, opens the Media Server Transport View dialog box. The dialog box shows all the inbound backup (and outbound restore) traffic for the selected media server.

Displays a dialog box with choices for running qualification tests on a robotic library.
