Manually changing proxy settings

Proxy settings are used to tell the Microsoft Download Manager the network address of an intermediary server (known as a proxy server) that is used between the application and the Internet on some networks. Changing proxy settings is something you usually only have to do if you are connecting to the Internet through a corporate network. You can configure Microsoft Download Manager to use settings that have already been configured for Internet Explorer. See Using Internet Explorer proxy settings for more information.

In some cases, you might need to manually set a proxy with information supplied by your network administrator.

To manually configure a proxy:

1.      Click the Settings icon on the Download Manager toolbar to open the Settings dialog box.

2.      Click the Proxy tab.

3.      Click Manual proxy configuration.

4.      In HTTP Proxy, enter the address of the proxy server.

5.      In the Port box, type or select the port number associated with the proxy server.

6.      In No proxy for, enter the addresses that need to be accessed without passing through the proxy server. If entering multiple addresses, separate them with a comma (,).

7.      Click OK to save your changes and close the Settings dialog box.
